The requirements for upgrading from a Class C to an A2 license are: having held a medium-sized bus or large truck driving qualification for more than three years, or having held a large bus driving qualification for more than one year, with no record of accumulating 12 penalty points in the most recent three scoring cycles prior to application. The A2 license permits the holder to drive tractor-trailers. A valid A2 license issued by China's public security traffic management authorities allows the holder to operate heavy and medium-sized full trailers and semi-trailers. A full trailer bears its total weight independently, while a semi-trailer shares part of its total weight with the towing vehicle. Additionally, an A2 license holder can drive vehicles permitted under B1, B2, C1, C2, C3, C4, and M classifications.

When I upgraded from a Class C to an A2 license, there were quite a few requirements. First, you need to have held a Class C license for at least two years, be at least 21 years old, and have no record of major accidents. A physical examination is mandatory—I went to the hospital specifically for vision, hearing, and ECG tests. The theoretical test (Subject 1) was a bit challenging; I spent three months studying and practicing questions. For Subject 2, practicing reversing and crossing the single-plank bridge left my arms sore. After the practical training, the road test simulated driving a large vehicle, including scenarios like mountain road turns and emergency braking. The whole process took about half a year, but after getting the license, I felt much more confident behind the wheel. Watching videos on driving test apps regularly was very helpful—take it step by step and don’t rush.

When I previously assisted students in upgrading to an A2 license at the driving school, the common requirements were driving experience, age, and health standards. They needed at least two years of a clean driving record with a C license, be over 21 years old, and have a qualified medical report. The exam consists of four steps: reviewing traffic laws and regulations in the theory section, practicing pole tests and hill starts in the field, and demonstrating the ability to drive heavy vehicles like trucks in the road test. I advised students to practice for an hour daily and to avoid sudden braking due to nervousness during the test. The cost isn't high, but sufficient time investment and mental preparation are necessary. Don’t forget to learn emergency handling and master driving skills for rainy days and nighttime conditions.

My brother just upgraded to an A2 license. He is 22 years old and has had a C license for two years. He said he needs to apply for a medical examination first, and his vision must meet the requirements. Then, he will enroll in a driving school. After passing the theoretical test, he will practice for Subject 2, where precise reverse parking is crucial. During the exam, he needs to stay calm and avoid speeding or crossing lines. The cost is reasonable, and the whole process takes about three to four months. He should avoid staying up late and maintain good condition to pass easily.
