There are 4 main reasons for abnormal noise when stepping on the brake of a Mercedes-Benz: 1. The brake pads and brake discs need to be worn in: Brake noise in this case is relatively normal and usually disappears automatically after driving for a period of time; 2. Foreign objects: Friction from the brake pads can cause a hissing sound when braking, which increases the friction of the brake pads. In this case, the foreign objects need to be cleaned promptly, and the noise will disappear; 3. Presence of metal hard spots: There may be some small metal particles inside the brake pads, which can produce a sharp, screeching sound when lightly braking. This issue can be resolved by stepping hard on the brakes a few times, removing and regrinding the brake pads, or replacing them with better-quality brake pads; 4. Severe wear of the brake disc: Wear on the brake disc can form deep grooves around the disc, and friction between the brake pads and the edges of these grooves can cause abnormal noise. If the grooves are not particularly deep, grinding the edges of the brake pads to avoid friction with the groove edges can solve the problem. If the grooves are already very deep, it is recommended to replace the brake disc. Generally, it is advised to replace the brake disc once for every two replacements of the brake pads.
