What are the reasons for Mercedes-Benz Carlife connection failure?

Mercedes-Benz Carlife connection failure may be due to data cable issues or USB port problems. Data cable: The original data cable of the phone or a data-capable cable is required. There are many three-in-one cables or cheap cables on the market that can only charge but not transfer data. Additionally, connection and disconnection issues may also be related to the data cable. Using a better-quality data cable is recommended. USB port: Some models have only one USB port that can be used for connection, while others may have an interconnect symbol on the USB port. Note that the cigarette lighter or car charging port definitely cannot be used. The USB port is usually located below the central control screen or inside the central armrest box. You can test the USB port with a USB drive. If the USB port can play music normally with a USB drive, it should generally be able to connect to a phone. When connecting the data cable, if the phone prompts for charging or file transfer, you can directly click cancel or select charging only. If the connection fails, try other options one by one, such as file transfer. Important: USB debugging does not need to be enabled on the phone. Using Carlife: Install the Carlife APP software, open the Carlife software on both the phone and the car, enter Baidu Carlife on the phone, and allow all required permissions to successfully connect.
I also had a headache when my Mercedes couldn't connect to CarLife. After struggling for a while, I found that the main issue was the data cable. Many cheap charging cables simply can't transmit data, so it's best to use the original cable or an MFi-certified one. Also, phone settings are easily overlooked. Android users need to enable USB debugging in the Developer Options, while iPhone users, though not requiring this, must unlock the screen and trust the device. The car's infotainment system also needs updates, as older versions often have poor compatibility—mine connected on the first try after an upgrade. Another common issue is poor USB port contact; try plugging and unplugging a few times or switch to another port in the car. If none of these work, it might be a fault in the car's infotainment module. In that case, I recommend visiting a 4S shop for professional diagnostics—they can directly read the error codes.
CarLife connection issues are typically caused by hardware and software compatibility problems. After a mobile system update, conflicts with the car's infotainment system may arise, such as Android 14 having poor support for older car systems. It's best to downgrade the phone system or wait for a car firmware update. Insufficient power supply from USB ports is also critical. Some front USB ports in Mercedes-Benz have low power output, so try switching to a higher-power rear port. Cable quality is important, as connections may drop if resistance exceeds standard values—ensure data transmission specifications when purchasing. On the software side, having Bluetooth enabled simultaneously can cause priority conflicts, so disable Bluetooth before connecting CarLife. Also, check the app permissions on the car's system and allow CarLife to run in the background via settings. Finally, clear the car system's cache, as long-term accumulation can slow down response times.
