Reasons for a manual transmission not being able to shift gears: 1. P-gear lock solenoid valve failure. The P-gear solenoid valve prevents the vehicle from accidentally shifting into other gears when starting. The solenoid valve needs to receive a signal from the brake pedal to release. If either of these components fails, it will prevent the gear lever from being pushed out of P-gear into another gear. 2. Internal failure of the gear lever assembly. Wear of the gears inside the gear lever can cause the gear lever to get stuck, making it difficult to pull forward or backward. 3. Incomplete clutch disengagement, caused by failure of the clutch disc or clutch pressure plate. Replacing the clutch three-piece set (friction disc, pressure plate, and release bearing) can resolve this issue. 4. Residual debris in the transmission oil affecting the gear shifting of the manual transmission car.
