If a vehicle owner is notified of excessive exhaust emissions during an on-road test, they may face fines from traffic police. According to Article 90 of the "Road Traffic Safety Law of the People's Republic of China": Drivers who violate road traffic safety laws and regulations regarding road usage shall be given a warning or fined. 1. Failing exhaust emission standards: Traffic police will first require the vehicle owner to rectify the issue within a specified period and have the vehicle re-inspected by environmental protection authorities within 15 days. If the owner fails to comply with the rectification notice and undergo re-inspection, they will be fined. 2. Causes of excessive vehicle emissions: The primary reason is the use of substandard fuel quality. Malfunctions in components such as the three-way catalytic converter or oxygen sensor can also lead to non-compliant vehicle emissions. After failing an emissions test, owners can visit repair shops to check whether the issue is caused by fuel or component failures.
