What are the instructions for the Passat's multifunction steering wheel buttons?

Passat's multifunction steering wheel buttons include the cruise control switch and multimedia control switch. Cruise control switch: Press the cruise switch once to turn on the cruise, and press it again to turn it off. Turning on the cruise control does not mean the car will start driving at a fixed speed; press the speed setting button to set the speed. (Cruise control can only be activated above 30km/h.) The 'res' button is mainly used to restore to the set speed. Multimedia control switch: Press the voice control button to control various functions of the vehicle by voice, such as air conditioning, sunroof, multimedia, etc. Pressing the 'view' button can switch the display of mileage, mainly switching between total mileage and single trip mileage. The instrument switch button is mainly used to switch the display style and mode of the LCD dashboard.
When I first got my Passat, I was super excited to explore the steering wheel buttons: the two on the left are volume controls—press up or down to adjust the volume; the small wheel next to them can be turned left or right to switch songs or radio stations. The cluster of buttons on the right mainly handles cruise control—the top button activates it, and the adjacent +/- buttons adjust the speed. The voice assistant button is at the bottom left—just press it to talk for navigation. The central scroll wheel controls the instrument panel menu, allowing you to check fuel consumption or trip data. Remember, button layouts may vary slightly depending on the model year, so it’s best for beginners to test them all while parked rather than fiddling on the road. Once you’ve got the hang of it, driving becomes smoother and reduces the need to reach for your phone. Over time, the whole process feels like using a game controller—fun and practical!
