Range-extended electric vehicles have the disadvantage of being relatively wasteful in terms of power consumption. Additionally, when driving on highways, the energy consumption of range-extended electric vehicles tends to be higher. Advantages of range-extended electric vehicles: Range-extended electric vehicles operate quietly, accelerate quickly, and since they have an engine to generate electricity, they can obtain power by refueling at gas stations when charging is not possible. In environments where charging is convenient, range-extended electric vehicles can be used as pure electric vehicles without the need for refueling, resulting in very low usage costs. Disadvantages of range-extended electric vehicles: Range-extended electric vehicles experience power wastage and have relatively high fuel consumption under highway driving conditions. Because the engine and generator in range-extended electric vehicles do not directly drive the wheels, this leads to power wastage. Under highway driving conditions, if the engine directly drove the wheels, the vehicle could maintain its optimal working state. However, range-extended plug-in hybrid vehicles require a conversion process, which itself consumes energy and results in higher fuel consumption.
