The differences between the Audi A3 and the Golf are: 1. Different positioning directions: The Audi A3 is positioned as a luxury hatchback; the Golf is positioned as a family car. 2. Different body dimensions: The Audi A3 has a body length, width, and height of 4312mm, 1785mm, and 1426mm; the Golf has a body length, width, and height of 4259mm, 1799mm, and 1476mm. 3. Different wheelbases: The Audi A3 has a wheelbase of 2630mm; the Golf has a wheelbase of 2631mm. 4. Different screen sizes: The Audi A3 has a standard 7-inch screen; the Golf's multimedia system features an 8-inch touchscreen.

I drove a Golf for several years before switching to an Audi A3. The most noticeable difference is the completely different sense of quality. The A3's interior materials are significantly more premium, with leather steering wheel and seats, refined button damping, and even the sound of closing the doors is much more solid than the Golf. Although both use the same 1.4T engine, the A3's chassis tuning is more stable, and the steering wheel doesn’t feel floaty at all on the highway. It is indeed about 40,000 to 50,000 RMB more expensive, but features like automatic parking and the virtual cockpit are only available as optional extras across the Golf lineup. Maintenance costs also differ quite a bit—last time, an oil change for the Golf cost just over 500 RMB, while the A3’s was over a thousand.

Recently accompanied a friend to compare these two cars. The Golf is like a practical pair of work pants, while the A3 is a well-tailored suit. With the same budget of 150,000, you can get the top trim of the Golf, but only the base model of the A3. The biggest difference in driving is the noise insulation—above 80 km/h on the elevated road, the Golf's tire noise is quite noticeable, while the A3 is much quieter. The steering wheel is also different, with the A3's being lighter and more precise. However, the Golf actually has more trunk space, easily fitting a stroller with room to spare. In my opinion, if you care about brand and quality, go for the A3; if you want value for money, the Golf is the way to go.

From a female perspective, the Audi A3's design is more eye-catching. The dynamic turn signals and honeycomb grille give it super high recognition, even the car key feels more refined than the Golf's. The difference is even more pronounced inside: the A3's ambient lighting offers 32 color options, while the Golf only has single-color lighting; the air vents feature an aircraft turbine design, and even the cup holders have damped slow-close mechanisms. However, the Golf's steering wheel feels lighter for women, and its reversing camera is clearer. Fuel consumption is similar for both, with the 1.4T engine averaging around 7L/100km in city driving. During test drives, pay special attention to the interior materials – the A3's soft-touch upholstery does look more premium.
