The 1.8T engines of the Touran and the Magotan both utilize the same TSI technology, with the Magotan's TSI technology being more advanced, offering superior power output. Below is more information about the Magotan: 1. In 2011, the B7 continued to be introduced to the domestic market by FAW-Volkswagen and was named the Magotan. To meet consumers' demand for comfort, the B7 was also natively lengthened, referred to by the media as the Magotan B7L, or the all-new Magotan. 2. In July 2016, the all-new generation Magotan, derived from the German eighth-generation B-class car, was officially launched. Built on the new MQB B platform, it not only features a fashionable and sporty design but is also equipped with a series of intelligent technologies surpassing its peers, including several high-end configurations exclusive to C-class cars for the first time. 3. The new Magotan's 1.8T turbocharged engine, model EA888, has a compression ratio of 9.6, a maximum output power of 180 horsepower, a peak torque of 300 Nm, a maximum power speed range of 4300-6250 rpm, and a maximum torque speed range of 1450-4100 rpm. This engine is paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission.
I used to drive a Touran 1.8T for a while and also tried my friend's Magotan 1.8T. Here are my impressions. The Touran's engine tuning leans towards practicality, with strong low-end torque that makes climbing hills with seven people effortless, but it noticeably loses steam at higher RPMs. The Magotan is completely different—its mid-to-high range acceleration is particularly fierce, making highway overtaking a breeze, as if it's specifically optimized for sedans. There's also a slight difference in turbo response: the Touran's turbo builds pressure a bit slower but sustains it longer, while the Magotan responds quicker off the line but doesn't maintain the boost as long. Most notably, the sound feedback while driving differs greatly—the Touran's engine is noticeably louder, whereas the Magotan's cabin is almost free of noise, showcasing clearly superior sound insulation. Overall, despite sharing the same displacement, these engines have distinctly different characters.
