However, the GTI's sport-tuned suspension results in a firmer ride with more vibrations, making long-distance journeys less comfortable. While its engine is powerful, it also consumes more fuel and comes with higher insurance costs, and that extra power is hardly usable during daily commutes in traffic. The standard Golf's 1.4T engine is fuel-efficient, reliable, and easier and cheaper to maintain, with readily available parts. It's also tens of thousands cheaper, and the savings can be put toward raising kids. The Golf GTI focuses on performance – with a stiff chassis, low-slung seats, and sport mode, it's thrilling for spirited driving but sacrifices practicality.
