EA888 engines DPL and DKV differ in power and emission standards. Different power: The EA888 engine comes in different versions with varying power outputs. The EA888-DPL engine has a maximum power of 137kW, maximum horsepower of 186Ps, and maximum torque of 320Nm. In contrast, the EA888-DKV engine has a maximum power of 162kW, maximum horsepower of 220Ps, and maximum torque of 350Nm. Different emission standards: In the 2019 models, it is clearly stated that the A888-DKV engine models all comply with the China 6 emission standard. The emission system has been upgraded to meet China's current policies and regulations. However, the EA888-DPL engine models still adhere to the China 5 emission standard.
I've driven quite a few Volkswagen group cars, and the difference between the DPL and DKV versions of the EA888 engine is quite noticeable. The DKV has more aggressive power output, with 162 kW stock, delivering strong acceleration and a pronounced push-back feeling. The DPL is tuned more conservatively, around 137 kW, making it better suited for daily commuting. In terms of emissions, the DPL comes with a particulate filter to meet China 6b standards, but it's prone to clogging, which can reduce performance and increase fuel consumption. The DKV doesn’t have this issue, making it more hassle-free. Hardware-wise, the DKV features a dual-injection system, offering better fuel economy and carbon deposit control, while the DPL only has direct injection. However, DPL parts are cheaper and easier to repair, whereas DKV's imported components are expensive and hard to source. Personally, if you love driving dynamics, go for the DKV; if you prioritize convenience, the DPL is the way to go.
