BMW M series differ mainly in their engines: the M3 is equipped with a 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged six-cylinder engine; the M5 features a 4.4-liter twin-turbocharged eight-cylinder engine; the M6 also comes with a 4.4-liter twin-turbocharged eight-cylinder engine; the X5M is powered by a 4.4-liter twin-turbocharged eight-cylinder engine; and the M2 has a 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged six-cylinder engine.
