China VI standard includes: 1. Carbon monoxide emission content of 700mg; 2. Non-methane hydrocarbon emission content of 68mg; 3. Nitrogen oxide emission content of 60mg; 4. Particulate matter emission content of 4.5mg. The full name of China VI is the China Sixth Stage Emission Standard for Motor Vehicles, which regulates the emission limits of harmful gases such as carbon monoxide, hydrocarbons, nitrogen oxides, particulate matter, and soot from vehicle exhaust. The China Sixth Stage Emission Standard for Motor Vehicles is established to implement the Environmental Protection Law and the Air Pollution Prevention and Control Law, aiming to prevent pollution from compression-ignition and gas-fueled ignition engine vehicle exhaust, protect the ecological environment, and safeguard human health.
The China VI standard is essentially our country's latest vehicle emission regulation, significantly stricter than the previous China V. It's divided into two phases: China VIa and China VIb. The most notable change is the 40% to 50% increase in requirements for pollutants like carbon monoxide and nitrogen oxides, affecting even gasoline vehicles. The most stringent aspect is mandating the installation of particulate number sensors (PN value) and adopting new testing methods that measure emissions during real-world driving, effectively plugging loopholes for emission cheating. Since July 2023, all new vehicles nationwide are required to comply with China VIb, with some regions implementing it years earlier. To meet the standard, manufacturers must equip vehicles with high-efficiency three-way catalytic converters and improve engine combustion technologies, with diesel vehicles requiring additional nitrogen oxide treatment. Ultimately, it's all about making the air cleaner.
