The main factors include excessive meshing clearance between the transmission pair and the steering gear, loose connections in the steering linkage, excessive clearance between the steering knuckle pin and its bushing, and loose wheel hub bearings, with the first two having the most significant impact. The free play of the steering gear should be checked in segments and analyzed one by one. While some free play helps mitigate road shocks, soften steering, and reduce driver fatigue, excessive free play can affect steering responsiveness and cause wheel wobble, compromising driving safety.
