Also known as ignition wires, they distribute the ignition sequence and transmit the high-voltage spark from the distributor to the spark plugs, enabling ignition and combustion in the cylinders to drive the engine. Symptoms of damaged spark plug wires include: 1. Lack of Power: The car struggles when going uphill, and the engine noise becomes noticeably louder. 2. Jerky Acceleration: Occasional hesitation during acceleration above 80 km/h, with sporadic jerks around 80 km/h and between 100-120 km/h, leading to an unsteady acceleration feel. 3. Increased Fuel Consumption: Noticeably higher fuel usage, with black soot visible at the exhaust pipe. This can cause mild or severe gear-shifting issues. Sometimes, the engine fails to start and requires extra throttle input to ignite. Note: As the vehicle accumulates mileage, spark plugs develop carbon deposits, and the electrode gap widens. Carbon buildup increases engine fuel consumption, while an enlarged spark plug gap makes starting the engine difficult.
