FAW and Second Automobile Works refer to the First Automobile Works and the Second Automobile Works respectively. Currently, there is no Third Automobile Works. 1. First Automobile Works: China's first large-scale automobile manufacturing enterprise, located in the western suburbs of Changchun City, Jilin Province. Construction began in 1953, and it was officially completed and put into production in 1956. It has more than 70,000 employees. With the First Automobile Works as the core, the China FAW Group, composed of more than 110 enterprises, is mainly engaged in the development, production, and sales of medium, light, and mini vehicles, cars, buses, and various special-purpose vehicles. The main products include the CA141 five-ton truck and its series products, the CA630 Hongqi luxury tourist bus, the Hongqi brand luxury sedan, and the Audi brand luxury sedan. 2. Second Automobile Works: Established in 1969, it was later renamed 'Dongfeng Motor Corporation'. In recent years, after another restructuring, it established 'Dongfeng Motor Co., Ltd.' 3. There is no Third Automobile Works in China, but many people want to establish one, or there are some named after other regions as the Third Automobile Works.
When I was a child, I heard the older generation tell stories about cars. FAW is the First Automobile Works of New China, established in Changchun in 1956. It started by producing Jiefang brand trucks and later launched the iconic Hongqi sedan. The Second Automobile Works, now known as Dongfeng Motor Corporation, was founded in Shiyan, Hubei in 1969, primarily manufacturing Dongfeng brand trucks and buses, before relocating its headquarters to Wuhan. The Third Automobile Works doesn’t have an official name, but people generally refer to it as SAIC Motor, which originated in Shanghai in 1958. After the reform and opening-up, it partnered with foreign brands like Volkswagen and General Motors, rapidly popularizing models such as the Santana and Buick. These three companies are the cornerstones of China’s automotive industry, driving its growth from scratch, and they continue to develop today.
