To what level should the car's coolant be filled?

Coolant should be filled to the position marked by an approximately 8mm diameter indicator. The steps for adding coolant are as follows: 1. First, conduct a comprehensive inspection of the vehicle to check for any cracks or signs of leakage in the pipes, as the coolant must flow through the five-way pipe before being distributed to different parts of the car to function effectively. 2. Drain the old coolant and flush the fluid channels with clean water. Add clean water to the coolant reservoir, then continue adding water to the reservoir so that it flows continuously through the engine cooling system. Start the engine and let it idle for 3 to 5 minutes to circulate the water. Initially, the water draining from the reservoir may have a faint pink color; continue adding clean water until the outflowing water is clear. 3. To allow the coolant to flow quickly into the radiator, after draining for about an hour, add new coolant through the radiator's hose. Start the engine and let it run for about 10 minutes. During this time, the coolant level will drop slightly as air is expelled from the cooling system. Then, add more coolant until the level is between the maximum and minimum marks.
As a new driver, I used to be confused about where to add coolant. Under the hood, look for a translucent plastic container usually labeled as the coolant reservoir, with MIN and MAX lines marked on it. You should fill the coolant level between these two lines—never above MAX or below MIN. I usually check it in the morning before starting the car because the engine is cold, and the level is accurate. If it’s low, top it up with the specified coolant mixture—never use tap water to avoid corroding the system. Overfilling can cause the coolant to overflow when the engine heats up and expands, potentially damaging the cap valve. After learning this, I now take a few minutes each month to quickly check, preventing mid-trip engine overheating and breakdowns, saving a lot of hassle. Maintaining this habit makes driving more reliable and worry-free.
