Currently, no relevant authorities have announced any news about adding a Subject 5 to the driver's license examination. The rumored Subject 5, which allegedly involves simulated highway driving, has been verified by relevant authorities as a false claim. Officials stated that any changes to the driver's license examination should be based on officially released information, and unverified online rumors should not be taken lightly. At present, China's driver's license examination consists of three subjects: Subject 1 Exam: This primarily tests the most basic knowledge of road traffic safety laws and regulations, traffic signals, and driving rules. The exam consists of 100 questions in the form of true/false and multiple-choice questions, with a perfect score of 100 and a passing grade of 90. Subject 2 Exam: This is a field driving skills test, which includes five components: pole test (reverse parking), slope parking and starting, parallel parking, curve driving, and right-angle turns. Subject 3 Exam: This is divided into two parts. The first part is the road driving skills test, which includes 16 components. The second part is the safe and civilized driving knowledge test, commonly referred to as "Subject 4."

I just got my driver's license last year as a newbie, and my instructor specifically emphasized that there is no such thing as 'Subject 5'. Currently, the driver's license test consists of only four subjects: Subject 1 is the theoretical computer-based test, with questions all about traffic rules; Subject 2 is the field operation, where tasks like parallel parking and hill starts make everyone sweat; Subject 3 is the road test, focusing on handling unexpected situations during actual driving; Subject 4 returns to theory but emphasizes safe driving awareness. The passing criteria are quite clear—you need to score above 90 in each subject. When I saw online rumors about adding a Subject 5, I specifically went to the DMV to ask, and they said the policy won’t change at least this year, so don’t be scared by the rumors.

As a driving school staff member, I have to explain this issue every day. The current driver's license examination system has been in place since 2013, and there is absolutely no plan to add a fifth subject. For Subject 1, a passing score is 90 out of 100 questions in the test bank. In Subject 2, crossing the line during reverse parking results in immediate failure. For Subject 3, parking more than 30 centimeters from the curb deducts 10 points. In Subject 4, missing any correct option in multiple-choice questions leads to point deduction. The rumors about Subject 5 testing first aid or high-speed driving are completely false. The latest document from the Ministry of Transport clearly states that the driver's license test will focus on the existing four subjects, with an emphasis on developing defensive driving skills.

When I was preparing for the driver's license test, I also fell for the rumor about a "Subject 5" exam, only to later discover it was just a marketing gimmick by a driving school. The actual situation is: Subject 2 has a full score of 100, with 80 required to pass; Subject 3 includes a simulated nighttime lighting test; and in Subject 4, making 6 mistakes will immediately terminate the exam. Instead of worrying about non-existent tests, it's better to practice skills like making U-turns on narrow roads. Last month, when I took students to the test center, the safety officer mentioned that the most common reason for failing was basic mistakes like not checking mirrors when changing lanes. He advised everyone to focus more on practical driving skills.
