Should You Use Recirculation or Fresh Air Mode When Running the Car AC?

When turning on the AC for cooling or heating, first activate recirculation mode to quickly lower or raise the interior temperature. Once the temperature stabilizes, appropriately switch to fresh air mode to ventilate with outside air. However, this isn't absolute. The following four situations should be considered specifically: 1. Road conditions: Use fresh air mode on highways. 2. Vehicle condition: New cars typically contain higher concentrations of toxic gases like formaldehyde. For the first 3-6 months after purchasing a new car, it's recommended to use fresh air mode plus open windows to enhance air circulation and dilute toxic gas concentrations. 3. Air quality: Unless the air quality is good, recirculation mode is advised to avoid excessive inhalation of PM2.5 particles. 4. Season: In summer with AC running, recirculation mode is recommended; in winter when using heating, remember to switch to fresh air mode.
