Should You Start an Automatic Transmission Car in N Gear or P Gear?

Start an automatic transmission car in N gear because if you start the engine in P gear, the gear lever has to pass through R gear. Even though you press the brake pedal, the automatic transmission still undergoes a disengagement and engagement of gears, increasing wear. After parking, when restarting, the car must be in P gear. The correct method to start a car: Before ignition, ensure the gear is in neutral, press the clutch, turn the key to the ACC position, wait for about 3 to 5 seconds to allow the car's circuits to complete self-inspection, then turn to the START position for ignition. After successful ignition, promptly release the key to return it to the ON position, preventing the starter motor's gear from disengaging from the engine's flywheel, which could damage the starter motor due to excessive flywheel speed. If you start the car while it's in gear without pressing the clutch, the car may lurch forward, increasing the risk of a rear-end collision. Additionally, the engine may stall under heavy load, causing abnormal wear to the engine.
