Should You Press the Clutch and Brake When Parking?

When parking, you should press both the clutch and brake, typically pressing the brake first followed by the clutch. The brake is a mechanical braking device used to slow down the vehicle, also known as a decelerator. The car's brake pedal is located below the steering wheel. Pressing the brake pedal activates the brake lever linkage, which applies pressure to the brake pads on the brake drum, clamping the brake rotor and causing the car to slow down or stop. The clutch is located within the flywheel housing between the engine and the transmission. The clutch assembly is secured to the rear plane of the flywheel with screws, and the output shaft of the clutch is the input shaft of the transmission. While driving, the driver can press or release the clutch pedal as needed to temporarily disconnect or gradually engage the engine and transmission, thereby cutting off or transmitting the engine's power to the transmission.
