Should You Overtake from the Left or Right on the Highway?

According to the Road Traffic Safety Law, whether on ordinary roads or highways, overtaking should always be done from the left side of the vehicle ahead. Overtaking from the right side is illegal. Additional details are as follows: 1. Before overtaking: Choose a straight, wide road with good visibility, no obstacles on either side, and no oncoming vehicles within 150 meters ahead. Ensure safety before proceeding to overtake. 2. During overtaking: Turn on the left turn signal and honk the horn (or flash headlights at night) to notify the vehicle ahead. After confirming that the vehicle ahead yields or signals to yield, slightly steer to the left, maintain a safe lateral distance from the vehicle being overtaken, accelerate to pass, and minimize the time spent side by side. 3. After overtaking: Continue driving in the overtaking lane. After passing the overtaken vehicle by 20-30 meters, turn on the right turn signal, return to the original lane, and then turn off the turn signal.
