Should the Oil Filter Be Replaced During an Oil Change?
1 Answers
When changing the engine oil, it is necessary to replace the oil filter as well. The oil filter is designed to remove impurities, metal particles, sludge, and other contaminants from the oil, ensuring that the filtered oil remains clean. This helps extend the lifespan of both the oil and the engine. If the oil filter is not replaced during an oil change, the new oil will become contaminated as it passes through the old filter, which still contains trapped dirt and debris. Over time, a neglected oil filter will lose its filtering efficiency, becoming virtually ineffective. Prolonged use of a dirty filter can accelerate wear and tear on internal engine components and, in severe cases, lead to oil burning issues.
