Should the left turn signal be used for hill starts?

No turn signal is required for uphill starts. Additional information: Exam process: Driving schools will organize groups or individuals to go to the local "Motor Vehicle Driver Examination Center" to collect personal exam files. Enter the waiting room in order, submit personal files according to the entry sequence, and watch the electronic display screen in the waiting room. The screen will display the examinee's name, ID number, vehicle number, and test area. Find the test vehicle according to the displayed vehicle number and area. If someone is currently taking the test in the vehicle, please wait aside. If no one is there, board the vehicle as instructed by the on-site examiner. Notes: Each person has two attempts. If passing, exit the vehicle and go to the examination center to confirm the score and sign. During the test, understand that no prompt for violation means no violation occurred, proceed to the next test item.
Throughout my many years as a driving instructor, I've often been asked whether to activate the left turn signal during hill starts. Honestly, there's no fixed rule—it depends more on the specific situation. If you're preparing to turn left or change lanes after starting, you should definitely signal; if you're proceeding straight, it's usually unnecessary. However, hill starts carry a higher risk of rolling back. That's why I advise students to develop the habit of using the left turn signal—just a few gentle flashes can alert following vehicles that 'I'm moving,' helping to prevent rear-end collisions. Especially in congested areas or poor weather conditions, this small action can significantly enhance safety. Developing such defensive driving habits requires little effort but protects both yourself and others. Remember, driving isn't just about following rules—it's about preventing accidents.
