Should the BMW 5 Series Switch to Run-Flat Tires?
1 Answers
It is not recommended to replace standard tires with run-flat tires on BMW 5 Series vehicles originally equipped with regular tires. Reasons not to switch to run-flat tires: Vehicles originally equipped with zero-pressure continuation tires have different designs in chassis rigidity, suspension configuration, body noise insulation, and wheel rim construction compared to those fitted with standard tires. Disadvantages of run-flat tires: Due to reinforced sidewall design, run-flat tires are generally stiffer, which reduces their ability to absorb road vibrations during driving. Instead, vibrations are directly transmitted to the chassis, resulting in decreased comfort. Therefore, run-flat tires offer inferior comfort compared to standard tires.
