Waxing is inferior to crystal coating; waxing is cheaper than crystal coating. The price of a single waxing is less than one-tenth of crystal coating, which has no advantage in this regard. Crystal coating requires higher technical skills from the construction personnel and a better construction environment, and it takes more time. In terms of durability: a single waxing usually lasts 1-2 months, while crystal coating is more durable, generally lasting about 1 year. There are two types of waxing: one is direct waxing, which is relatively simple and has the lowest price, starting at around 350 yuan in first-tier cities. It is suitable for new cars and cars without scratches. After washing the car, car wax is directly applied to the surface. Just like applying a layer of cream directly to our face after washing, it forms a thin protective layer between the car and the air, preventing rainwater, dust, etc. from directly contacting the car paint, thus protecting the car paint. This protection is also the weakest. Generally, it will be washed off after two car washes. "Crystal" is actually a type of glass cellulose, called "crystal" because of its gloss, with the scientific name of full silane. It exists in liquid form. After curing, it forms a transparent protective layer on the car paint surface, isolating external substances from damaging the paint. At the same time, the protective layer itself has a certain hardness, just like applying a tempered film to a mobile phone.

Last year I bought a new car and initially struggled with the choice between waxing and ceramic coating. Ceramic coating is more expensive, costing around a thousand yuan, but it offers numerous advantages: it forms a hard protective layer with excellent UV and water stain resistance. Since the new car's paint is naturally smooth, ceramic coating locks in that shine, keeping the car looking brand new for a long time. Plus, it lasts about two years, reducing the hassle of frequent maintenance. Waxing, while cheaper—just a few dozen yuan to do it yourself—needs to be reapplied every few months, especially after rain or car washes, as the wax layer fades easily, consuming both time and effort. I believe a new car is worth investing in ceramic coating—it saves time and effort, makes the car look more impressive, and lowers the risk of oxidation and corrosion. Don’t overlook environmental factors; ceramic coating also provides scratch resistance, easing anxiety for new car owners. In the long run, the maintenance costs are actually quite similar.

I've been waxing my new car for over a decade, and I stick with it for practical reasons: it saves money and effort. Ceramic coating sounds fancy, but it costs thousands of yuan, which isn't necessary for a new car. A bottle of wax only costs a few dozen yuan, and you can apply it yourself after washing the car on weekends—it takes just half an hour, provides a decent shine, and protects against minor dirt. A new car's paint is fresh, so regular waxing is enough for maintenance. If you live in an area with mild weather, waxing works quite well, and the money saved can be used for other maintenance tasks, like changing tires or adding accessories. The waxing process is simple, even beginners can learn it easily, and doing it yourself gives a sense of accomplishment. Ceramic coating has a longer maintenance cycle but is more expensive—if your new car isn't at high risk, waxing is a more economical and flexible choice.

I choose waxing because I prioritize environmental sustainability. Ceramic coating typically uses synthetic chemical materials, which generate significant emissions during production and application, causing greater environmental impact. Waxing allows for the selection of organic products, such as plant-based or beeswax options, which are more natural and biodegradable, helping to protect the planet's resources. The original paint on a new car is already robust, and waxing provides sufficient basic protection against oxidation and stains. Although ceramic coating lasts longer with less maintenance, it comes with higher costs and ecological burdens. I prefer regular hand waxing to ensure a green and eco-friendly process, minimizing the use of chemical cleaners. This benefits both air and water quality and, in the long run, promotes the health of the car's paint.
