Release the Handbrake First or Start the Engine First?

Start the engine first and then release the handbrake. The steps for starting a car are as follows: 1. After getting into the car, press the brake pedal and ensure the transmission is in neutral. 2. Turn the key to start the engine, then press the clutch pedal with your left foot and release the handbrake lever with your right hand. 3. Shift the transmission into first gear to prepare for moving off. 4. Slowly release the clutch pedal with your left foot while moving your right foot from the brake pedal to the accelerator pedal, gently applying throttle. 5. The vehicle enters the "clutch semi-engaged" state, at which point the car begins to move slowly. 6. Once the vehicle is moving steadily, lift your left foot off the clutch pedal and press the accelerator with your right foot as needed to accelerate the car.
