Start the engine first and then release the handbrake. The steps for starting a car are as follows: 1. After getting into the car, press the brake pedal and ensure the transmission is in neutral. 2. Turn the key to start the engine, then press the clutch pedal with your left foot and release the handbrake lever with your right hand. 3. Shift the transmission into first gear to prepare for moving off. 4.
