Strictly speaking, a right turn must pass through the stop line, but many drivers turn without crossing the stop line and are rarely penalized. Conditions under which a right turn is allowed: Generally, traffic regulations permit vehicles to make a right turn directly from the right lane without interfering with vehicles proceeding on a green light. Conditions under which a right turn is prohibited: When there is a separate right-turn arrow signal light showing red; when auxiliary signs such as "No right turn on red" or "Right turn prohibited on red" are displayed at the traffic signal.
