Mercedes-Benz ML350 Transfer Case Oil Specification

Mercedes-Benz ML350 transfer case uses ATF automatic transmission fluid. ATF features finer oil molecules and superior shear resistance. During semi-clutch engagement or the moment of connection, the oil film acting on the friction material surface creates an effective suspension state that allows slippage, cushioning sudden strong impacts for smoother engagement and gear shifting. Additionally, the fine oil molecules significantly reduce valve sticking, ensuring smoother valve body operation. The primary function of transfer case oil is to lubricate these gears and dissipate heat. If the transfer case oil deteriorates and remains unchanged for an extended period, its lubricating properties will degrade, and the fluid will accumulate metal particles. These metal particles continuously circulate within the transfer case with the oil, accelerating gear wear.
