Is Thicker Always Better for Paint Protection Film?
1 Answers
Paint protection film is not necessarily better when it is thicker. Paint Protection Film: The thickness of paint protection film consists of the base material, coating, and adhesive layer. Therefore, the thickness of the film depends on its components. A film with a combined thickness of 8.5mil (base material + coating + adhesive layer) cannot be compared to one that includes two additional layers of sub-film, adhesive layer, base material, and coating, totaling 12mil. Thicker Paint Protection Film: Thicker films offer better resistance to external factors such as scratches, abrasions, and impacts from small stones, providing superior protection. Due to their enhanced protective capabilities, thicker films generally have a longer lifespan. In the market, brands with thicker films often come with longer warranty periods. However, excessively thick films have drawbacks, such as reduced adhesion and a noticeable artificial appearance when applied. The optimal thickness for the film is between 8.5mil and 9.5mil.
