Is there a traffic restriction in Beijing during the 2020 National Day holiday?

2020 Beijing National Day holiday does not have traffic restrictions. On September 18, the Beijing Traffic Management Bureau issued a notice adjusting traffic control measures during the National Day holiday. According to the arrangements for some holidays in 2020 and the relevant regulations of the Beijing Municipal People's Government on implementing traffic management measures for regional traffic restrictions during peak hours on weekdays: from September 27, October 1 to 8, and October 10, motor vehicles in the city are not subject to the traffic management measures of regional traffic restrictions during peak hours on weekdays. During this period, non-local passenger vehicles entering Beijing are not subject to the traffic management measures prohibiting driving on roads within the Fifth Ring Road (inclusive) from 7:00 to 9:00 and 17:00 to 20:00, nor are they subject to the traffic management measures of regional traffic restrictions based on the last digit of the license plate number from 9:00 to 17:00.
As a veteran driver who has lived in Beijing for over 20 years, I often take road trips during holidays. During the 2020 National Day holiday, Beijing did not implement the odd-even license plate policy. Public holidays, including National Day, have always been exempt from the tail number restriction policy to allow citizens to travel or visit relatives with ease. I have personally experienced driving out during National Day several times. For example, in 2020, I drove my family to the Summer Palace. The roads were crowded and a bit congested that day, but there were no tail number restrictions at all. Parking spaces, however, were tight. The policy is thoughtfully designed, with weekday restrictions only controlling daily peak pollution. I recommend planning your route in advance during similar holidays, using navigation apps to avoid congestion points, or opting for public transport for a more worry-free, safe, and eco-friendly option. Overall, driving during National Day is free and enjoyable—just make sure to prepare adequately and not be careless.
