Is There a Second Chance for the Subject One Exam?

The "Regulations on the Application and Use of Motor Vehicle Driver's Licenses" clearly stipulate that candidates can take the Subject One exam twice on the same day. If they fail the first attempt, they can retake it for free. If they fail the second attempt, the Subject One exam is terminated, and they can only reschedule the exam after ten days. Subject One, also known as the Subject One theory test or driver's theory test, is part of the motor vehicle driver's license assessment. The exam content includes driving theory basics, road safety laws and regulations, local regulations, and related knowledge. The test is conducted on a computer with a time limit of 45 minutes. A passing score for the Subject One exam is 90 out of 100. The test consists of 100 questions, including single-choice and true/false questions, with each question worth 1 point. If a candidate answers 11 questions incorrectly during the exam, the system will automatically submit the test and end the session. Subject One exam content includes: driver's license and motor vehicle management regulations; road traffic conditions and rules; road traffic safety violations and penalties; road traffic accident handling regulations; basic knowledge of motor vehicles; local regulations; knowledge of braking systems and safety devices for large and medium-sized passenger and freight vehicles; specialized knowledge for wheeled self-propelled machinery, trams, and trolleybuses. Subject One exam precautions: Candidates should dress appropriately (no slippers), avoid bringing electronic devices or bags into the exam hall, carry their ID card, and queue to enter the waiting area. Observe the instructions and procedures on the large screen and store personal belongings in lockers before entering the exam hall. Upon entering, verify identity at the assigned station and begin the exam. Ensure the camera is aligned correctly and follow exam rules. If the first attempt is unsuccessful, a retake is allowed on the same day. If the retake is also unsuccessful, candidates must pay to reschedule. After completion, queue to collect and sign the score report—unsigned reports are invalid. There is no limit to the number of times Subject One can be scheduled. Each exam allows one retake if the initial attempt fails. If the retake is also unsuccessful, the exam is terminated, and the candidate must reschedule. In contrast, Subject Two and Subject Three allow only five attempts each, with rescheduling permitted after ten days. If the Subject Three safety and civilized driving knowledge test is failed, the previously passed road driving skills test results remain valid. The driver's license test consists of three subjects: Subject One, Subject Two, and Subject Three. Subject One covers road traffic safety laws, regulations, and related knowledge. Subject Two is the field driving skills test. Subject Three includes two parts: road driving skills and safety and civilized driving knowledge. The safety and civilized driving knowledge test is conducted after Subject Three, so it is commonly referred to as Subject Four, though this term is not officially recognized in the regulations (i.e., the Ministry of Public Security's Order No. 123).
