Is there a scrap age limit for pickup trucks now?

Currently, pickup trucks do have a scrap age limit, but some regions are gradually lifting the 15-year mandatory scrapping regulation, meaning household-use pickups no longer have a scrap age limit. However, the 600,000-kilometer scrapping rule still applies, along with the annual inspection requirements for pickups: new pickups are exempt from inspection for the first 6 years but require a stamp from the vehicle management office every two years during this period. From years 7 to 15, annual inspections are required, and after 15 years, inspections are required every six months. Pickups that fail the annual inspection or exceed 600,000 kilometers must be scrapped. Below is relevant information about pickup truck scrapping: 1. Pickup truck scrapping and deregistration: The applicant must send the vehicle to a qualified motor vehicle recycling company for dismantling and obtain the "Scrapped Motor Vehicle Recycling Certificate." The recycling company then processes the "Motor Vehicle Deregistration Certificate" with the traffic management department and notifies the owner that the vehicle has been deregistered. 2. Pickup truck scrapping subsidy application: The applicant (or authorized agent) must fill out and submit the "Subsidy Fund Application Form for Phase-Out of National III Diesel Vehicles" at the service window. The following documents are required for the application: (1) Original and photocopy of the "Scrapped Motor Vehicle Recycling Certificate"; (2) Original and photocopy of the owner’s ID card (for corporate vehicles, submit the original and photocopy of the business license); (3) Original and photocopy of the owner’s bank card (photocopy must be signed by the individual; for corporate vehicles, submit the original and photocopy of the bank account opening permit, with the photocopy stamped by the company); (4) If handled by an agent, a power of attorney from the owner or corporate legal representative and the agent’s original ID card and photocopy must be provided. 3. Pickup truck subsidy disbursement: After approval, the subsidy funds will be transferred to the bank account opened under the owner’s (or company’s) name.
As a seasoned pickup truck driver with 15 years of experience, I can clearly tell you the policies have changed. In the past, people always said pickups were classified as commercial vehicles subject to mandatory scrapping after 15 years, but things are truly different now. Last year when I took my Great Wall Poer for annual inspection, I specifically asked the vehicle management office - the new regulation has completely abolished the mandatory scrapping age limit for pickup trucks! However, two points still need attention: first, vehicles reaching 600,000 kilometers will be guided to scrap; second, those failing annual inspections must still be scrapped. From my experience, diesel pickups generally have no major issues in the first decade, but special attention should be paid to emission tests after ten years.
