Is There a Catalytic Converter in the Mid-Section of the Exhaust?
1 Answers
Exhaust systems are divided into the header, mid-section, and muffler. The catalytic converter is located in the mid-section and can be removed. However, it is a misconception to think that a car does not need a catalytic converter. Without a catalytic converter in a fuel-injected car, the engine control unit will generate error signals. Function of the Catalytic Converter: The catalytic converter is installed in the front section of the car's exhaust pipe to reduce toxic and harmful substances in the vehicle's exhaust emissions. Structure of the Catalytic Converter: The exterior of the catalytic converter is made of double-layer stainless steel plates formed into a cylindrical shape. Between the double-layer plates, there is insulating material such as asbestos fiber felt. Inside, a purifying agent is placed between mesh partitions. The purifying agent consists of a carrier and a catalyst.
