The Mercedes-Benz GLK300 is available as a domestically produced model. The difference between the imported and domestically produced versions lies in the rear of the vehicle. The domestically produced model clearly indicates its identity with the words "Beijing Benz" on the rear, and it features dark-tinted rear window glass, whereas the imported model uses transparent glass. In terms of interior, the changes between the domestically produced and imported models are minimal. Both retain the brushed aluminum interior trim, three-spoke multifunction steering wheel, and the LCD instrument panel on the center console. Regarding performance, the domestically produced GLK300 is equipped with a 3.0L V6 engine, delivering a maximum power of 245 kW and a maximum torque of 300 Nm. Compared to the imported model, the domestically produced version has an additional 14 horsepower. The transmission is the same 7-speed automatic manual transmission as the imported model.
As a car enthusiast, I've been following Mercedes-Benz models for a long time. When the GLK300 was first launched in 2008, it was all imported, driving great but with a relatively high price. Later, Beijing Benz started localized production, and around 2011, the domestically produced GLK300 was introduced. After localization, the price dropped by about tens of thousands of yuan, making it more affordable for more people. The quality was quite reliable, with the engine and chassis basically the same as the imported version, only the parts were localized, making repairs more convenient and cheaper. Although it's now discontinued and replaced by the GLC, there are many domestically produced versions in the used car market, offering high cost-effectiveness, powerful driving, and luxurious interiors, making it very practical for daily use. Localization has made luxury SUVs more accessible, which is a good thing.
