Is the license plate number the same after replacement or reissuance of a motor vehicle license plate?

After reissuance, the license plate number remains the same and unchanged; whereas, when replacing the license plate, the new plate number will be different from the original one. Differences between reissuance and replacement of license plates: Reissuance of a license plate is applicable when the plate is lost, and a new plate with the same number is issued upon presenting the required documents; replacement of a license plate involves exchanging the old plate for a new one with a different number. Reissuance of a license plate requires filing, while replacement does not because the number changes. The time required for both reissuance and replacement of motor vehicle license plates is the same. In both cases, it is necessary to fill out the Application Form for Reissuance or Replacement of Motor Vehicle License Plates, and bring the original vehicle registration certificate and the vehicle owner's ID card to the local vehicle management office for processing. After reissuance of a vehicle license plate, the original one can no longer be used and must be surrendered. If a vehicle license plate or driver's license is lost or damaged, the vehicle owner should apply to the vehicle management office for reissuance or replacement by filling out the Application Form for Reissuance or Replacement of Vehicle License Plates and Driver's Licenses, and submit the identity proof of the vehicle owner.
