Is the Ideal a Hybrid?

Ideal is a hybrid. The fuel-saving effect and range capability of hybrid vehicles are introduced as follows: Hybrid vehicles have excellent fuel-saving effects: Generally, for cars with the same displacement and model, the hybrid version can save up to 30% on fuel, which is a major reason many consumers opt for hybrid cars. Hybrid vehicles have strong range capabilities: Compared to plug-in hybrid models, hybrid vehicles have significantly higher range capabilities, especially in situations where charging infrastructure like charging stations is not well-developed. Hybrid vehicles are more convenient and easier to use, offering considerable advantages.
After driving the Li ONE for three years, I finally figured out this system. Li uses an extended-range hybrid, which is different from regular hybrid vehicles. Its 1.5T engine doesn’t drive the wheels at all—it just acts as a power bank. For daily commutes, it mostly runs on pure electric mode, and a single charge gives me enough range for 150 km. On long trips, the engine kicks in to generate electricity, extending the range. A five-minute refuel can get me hundreds of kilometers further, completely eliminating my range anxiety. This design is especially suitable for families who have easy access to charging but occasionally take long trips. The only minor downside is the slight buzzing sound from the generator in the trunk.
During my last test drive of the Li L9, I specifically studied its powertrain system. Strictly speaking, it's not a traditional hybrid but more like an electric vehicle with a power bank. It operates quietly on pure electric power for daily use, and the engine only kicks in to generate electricity when the battery is nearly depleted. The advantages of this range-extender technology are obvious: no transmission means simpler structure, faster motor response during acceleration, and significantly reduced motion sickness for kids in the back seats. However, fuel consumption is slightly higher than hybrid models when the engine is generating electricity. But considering the green license plate benefits and exemption from purchase tax, these trade-offs seem worthwhile.
