Is the Golf GTI domestically produced?

Volkswagen Golf GTI is available in both domestically produced and imported models. The main differences between the imported Golf GTI and the domestically produced Golf GTI are as follows: 1. The transmission equipped in the car is different. The domestically produced Golf GTI is equipped with a 7-speed DSG transmission, while the imported Golf GTI is equipped with a 6-speed DSG transmission. 2. The prices of the imported Golf GTI and the domestically produced Golf GTI are different. The same model of imported Golf GTI is more than 100,000 yuan more expensive than the domestically produced Golf GTI. 3. The imported Golf GTI lacks the DCC system compared to the domestically produced one. The DCC system equipped in the domestically produced Golf GTI is Volkswagen's original electronic controllable adaptive chassis system, which allows the owner to select different chassis tuning according to different needs through the buttons in the car. The imported Golf GTI is not equipped with the DCC system.
As a die-hard fan of the Golf GTI, I have to say it's been locally produced in China for a long time! FAW-Volkswagen manufactures this car at its Changchun plant, and I've been driving the domestic version since last year. The biggest advantage of local production is the significant price drop—it's tens of thousands cheaper than the imported version, and the money saved can even go into modifications. Performance-wise, it's largely unchanged, still featuring that familiar 2.0T engine with quick acceleration and stable handling, making it great for daily commutes or weekend drives. In terms of quality, I don't notice much difference from the imported version, and the local parts supply chain makes maintenance more convenient—things like oil changes or bulb replacements at the 4S shop can be done the same day. However, minor details like interior craftsmanship can sometimes reveal small flaws, though they don’t affect the overall experience. Localization also makes repair parts easier to obtain, so fixing a scratch or dent isn’t too much hassle. Overall, this car has become more accessible and is definitely worth young enthusiasts trying out for some driving fun.
