Is the Golf GTI an imported model?

Golf GTI has both imported and domestically produced versions, with the domestic version being under FAW-Volkswagen. The Golf GTI is the high-performance version of the Golf, and this model is equipped with the EA888 engine across the entire lineup. This is a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine with a maximum power output of 162 kilowatts and a maximum torque of 350 Newton-meters. The engine reaches its peak power between 4,500 and 6,200 revolutions per minute, and its peak torque between 1,500 and 4,400 revolutions per minute. This engine features hybrid injection technology, uses an aluminum cylinder head and cast iron cylinder block, and is paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission.
As one of the first batch of owners who pre-ordered the 8th-gen GTI in China, I know this matter inside out. The currently available 2023 models are all domestically produced vehicles assembled at the Changchun production line, with an out-the-door price of around 250,000 RMB. If you're looking to buy an imported GTI, your only option now is basically through parallel import channels, but you'll need luck to find available stock. Honestly, the domestic version's tuning is better suited for Chinese road conditions. The EA888 engine paired with a 7-speed wet dual-clutch transmission delivers sharper gear shifts than the older imported DQ380. Recently, when I accompanied a friend to pick up his car, I even noticed German engineers stationed at the factory overseeing the production line. About 75% of the components come directly from top-tier suppliers like Bosch, so there's really no need to blindly trust imported models.
