Is the Geely Xingyue's Engine Made by Volvo?

Geely Xingyue's engine is produced by Volvo. The Xingyue L is equipped with Volvo's Drive-E series 2.0TD four-cylinder turbocharged engine across all models. The 2.0TD engine in the Xingyue L comes in two tuning versions: the 2.0TD-T4 engine with a maximum power of 160 kW and peak torque of 325 N·m, and the 2.0TD-T5 engine with a maximum power of 175 kW and peak torque of 350 N·m. For daily maintenance of the Geely Xingyue's engine, the following methods can be used: Use lubricating oil of appropriate quality grade. For gasoline engines, select SD-SF grade gasoline engine oil based on the additional equipment of the intake and exhaust systems and usage conditions. For diesel engines, choose CB-CD grade diesel engine oil according to mechanical load, with the selection standard not lower than the manufacturer's requirements. Regularly change the engine oil and filter. The quality of any grade of lubricating oil will change during use. After a certain mileage, performance deteriorates, leading to various engine problems. To avoid malfunctions, change the oil regularly based on usage conditions and maintain an appropriate oil level. When oil passes through the fine pores of the filter, solid particles and viscous substances accumulate in the filter. If the filter is clogged and oil cannot pass through, the filter may burst or the safety valve may open, allowing oil to bypass the filter and carry contaminants back to the lubrication areas, accelerating engine wear and increasing internal contamination. Regularly clean the crankcase. During engine operation, high-pressure unburned gases, acids, moisture, sulfur, and nitrogen oxides from the combustion chamber enter the crankcase through the gap between the piston rings and cylinder walls, mixing with metal particles from component wear to form sludge. Small amounts remain suspended in the oil, while larger amounts precipitate, clogging filters and oil passages, making engine lubrication difficult and causing wear. Regularly use radiator cleaner to clean the radiator. Removing rust and scale not only ensures the engine operates normally but also extends the overall lifespan of the radiator and engine.
I usually keep an eye on changes in the automotive industry and know that Geely began technical cooperation after acquiring Volvo in 2010, but the engine in the Xingyue isn't directly taken from Volvo. Geely developed its own engines, such as the Drive-E series, incorporating some of Volvo's high-efficiency technologies like low-emission designs, but overall, they are independently developed by Geely. The CMA platform used in the vehicle is also shared, enhancing suspension and safety performance. Having driven a friend's Xingyue, I noticed its quick power response and fuel efficiency, with many owners praising its durability in user groups. Geely's approach aims to differentiate brand positioning, leveraging Volvo's reputation without conflating the two. Chinese car owners have responded positively, boosting market competitiveness. Common questions include how to reduce maintenance costs, and while there is a gap in actual usage compared to pure Volvo cars, the cost-performance ratio is much higher.
