Is the Car Battery Charging in Neutral Gear?
1 Answers
When the car is in neutral gear, the battery is charging. The function of the battery is to store electrical energy and supply power for car starting, ignition, lighting, signals, and audio equipment. The working principle of the battery: The battery uses a lead-acid battery, similar to the principle of a regular battery. When the load is connected, the lead on the negative plate reacts with sulfuric acid to form lead sulfate and lose electrons, while the lead oxide on the positive plate reacts with sulfuric acid to generate lead and water, producing an electric current. Battery maintenance methods include: 1. Start the car periodically to charge the battery; 2. Add distilled water or a special replenishing fluid when the electrolyte is low; 3. Regularly check if the small holes on the battery cover are ventilated during daily driving; 4. Inspect the positive and negative terminals for signs of oxidation; 5. Check all parts of the circuit for aging or short circuits; 6. Turn off all electrical devices when leaving the car.
