Built-in fuel filters do need replacement. Below is relevant information about fuel filters: 1. Replacement interval: The replacement cycle for the Baojun 730 fuel filter is every 20,000 kilometers. 2. Function of fuel filters: The fuel filter's purpose is to remove water and impurities from gasoline. When the engine operates, fuel flows through the inlet pipe into the sediment bowl of the filter under the action of the fuel pump. As the volume increases and flow rate decreases at this stage, water (which is heavier than oil) and impurity particles settle at the bottom of the bowl. Lighter impurities continue flowing with the fuel toward the filter element, while clean fuel permeates through the micropores of the filter element into its interior, then exits through the outlet pipe.

I've driven a taxi for twenty years, so I have a lot to say about fuel filters. Last time, a customer drove 150,000 kilometers without changing the filter, and the fuel line got so clogged that the fuel injector broke. Nowadays, even though the filters in newer cars are hidden inside the fuel tank and integrated with the fuel pump, the layer of impurities at the bottom of the tank is very real. I recommend changing it no later than 100,000 kilometers, especially if you frequently refuel at small gas stations where impurities are more common. By the time your car starts losing power during acceleration or idles as shaky as a sieve, spending 800 yuan to replace the filter is much easier than fixing a fuel injector.

Recently worked on an old Passat - the fuel pump was buzzing so loud it was scary. When we opened the tank, the filter was completely clogged like a mud pie. Don't take that 'maintenance-free for life' talk from manufacturers seriously - those fuel tank deposits, moisture and metal particles don't just disappear. Built-in filters basically reach saturation after 7-8 years, making the fuel line struggle like it's being choked. Our shop always keeps a filter pressure tester on hand - we recommend replacement if clogging exceeds 0.5 bar. The redesigned Corolla now has upgraded filtration, but even those need replacing when due.

The biggest fear in auto repair is car owners believing in the nonsense of 'maintenance-free.' Nowadays, fuel system pressure can reach up to 4 bar, and a clogged filter can cause the fuel pump to overload. The most extreme case I've seen was a filter rupturing, sending metal shavings straight into the high-pressure fuel rail. It's recommended to check fuel pressure every 50,000 km, and modified cars with tuned ECUs should change filters even more frequently. BMW's newer models integrate the filter into the fuel pump assembly, requiring tank removal for replacement, but an OEM part costs just over a thousand, which is much cheaper than repairing fuel injectors.
