The Bin Yue offers both three-cylinder and four-cylinder engine options. It is equipped with two types of engines: a 1.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine and a 1.5-liter turbocharged three-cylinder engine. The 1.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine delivers 141 horsepower and a maximum torque of 235 Nm, while the 1.5-liter turbocharged engine produces 177 horsepower and 255 Nm of maximum torque. The Bin Yue is a compact SUV under the Geely brand, with dimensions of 4330 mm in length, 1800 mm in width, and 1609 mm in height, and a wheelbase of 2600 mm.

When it comes to the engine configuration of the Bin Yue, I think it depends on the specific model year and variant. Earlier models, like the 2018 and 2019 1.0T versions, indeed used three-cylinder engines. However, the more mainstream models currently on the market, especially the Bin Yue post-2021, have mostly switched to 1.5T four-cylinder engines, which offer much smoother driving. Pay special attention to its 1.5TD variant, which has quite responsive power delivery. If you're considering a used older model, you might come across three-cylinder engines, but the ones sold at 4S dealerships are mostly four-cylinder versions now. When choosing a car, it's advisable to carefully check the engine bay or directly refer to the vehicle's nameplate for the most accurate information.

As a Binjie owner, I paid special attention to engine issues when purchasing. My 2021 1.5T Glory Edition has been running for nearly three years now, and it's definitely a four-cylinder engine. A friend who bought the 2019 1.0T version with a three-cylinder engine does notice slight vibrations at low speeds, especially when waiting at traffic lights with the D gear engaged and brakes pressed. However, all currently available new Binjie COOL models in dealerships now feature four-cylinder engines, including the hybrid ePro version which is also developed based on a four-cylinder platform. If driving smoothness is your priority, simply opt for the new four-cylinder models. City driving fuel consumption is around 8L/100km, and the power is completely adequate.

From a technical perspective, the Geely Binyue has utilized two powertrain setups: the older 1.0T three-cylinder engine model JLH-3G15TD with 132 horsepower, and the current mainstay 1.5T four-cylinder model BHE15-EFZ producing 181 horsepower. The three-cylinder engine was designed with a balance shaft for vibration reduction, but its inherent physical structure results in greater idle vibration compared to the four-cylinder. The new four-cylinder engine features 350bar direct injection, achieves 38% thermal efficiency, and delivers better low-end torque performance. The practical driving difference is noticeable, especially when climbing hills with AC on—the three-cylinder exhibits significantly louder noise. Even the Binyue's hybrid version, the ePro, now uses a four-cylinder engine, so it's advisable to avoid the three-cylinder variant.
