Is the Avalon Engine Imported?

The Avalon engine is imported. Both the engine and transmission of the Avalon are manufactured in Japan and then shipped to China for assembly in Changshu. Taking the 2021 Avalon as an example, it belongs to the midsize car category with body dimensions of: length 4975mm, width 1850mm, height 1450mm, wheelbase of 2870mm, fuel tank capacity of 60l, and a curb weight of 1595kg. The 2021 Avalon features a MacPherson strut front suspension and an E-type multi-link rear suspension. It is equipped with a 2.5L naturally aspirated engine delivering a maximum horsepower of 209ps, maximum power of 154kw, and maximum torque of 250nm, paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission.
When I bought the Avalon, I specifically asked the salesperson if the engine was imported. The salesperson said that currently, the Toyota Avalon is produced in China by FAW Toyota, and the engines are mostly domestically manufactured, mainly assembled at the factory in Tianjin, not directly imported from Japan or other countries. This approach helps reduce production costs, making the car more affordable. For example, my car has been running smoothly for over a year without any engine issues. The advantage of domestic production is that repair parts are easier to find, and maintenance costs are lower. If it were imported, the car might be more expensive due to tariffs and harder to repair. Overall, Toyota's localization production strategy is good, offering convenience and cost-effectiveness to consumers. When choosing a car, don't worry about the quality of domestic engines—they are quite reliable.
