Audi Q3 has both domestically produced and imported models, but the Audi Q3 seen in China are all domestically produced versions. The Audi Q3 is a compact SUV under the Audi brand, with a length of 4418mm, a width of 1848mm, a height of 1584mm, and a wheelbase of 2680mm. The Audi Q3 is available in both front-wheel drive and four-wheel drive versions, with the four-wheel drive models equipped with a full-time four-wheel drive system and a multi-plate clutch central differential. The Audi Q3 is powered by two engines: a 1.4-liter turbocharged engine and a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine. The 1.4-liter turbocharged engine, coded as EA211-DJS, delivers a maximum power of 110kW and a maximum torque of 250Nm. The 2.0-liter turbocharged engine, coded as EA888-DKV, produces a maximum power of 137kW and a maximum torque of 320Nm.

As an Audi owner, I'm often asked about the Q3's domestic production status. In fact, all domestically produced Audi Q3s are manufactured at the FAW-Volkswagen plant in Changchun, which is just a half-hour drive from my home. There are distinct differences in the parts procurement systems between domestic and imported versions - for example, the domestic version uses Fuyao glass while the German original uses Saint-Gobain. The most straightforward way to tell them apart is by looking at the rear emblem - domestic versions bear the 'FAW Audi' badge, and the environmental compliance documents that come with the car clearly indicate the manufacturing enterprise. From an owner's perspective, the domestic version does have significantly shorter wait times for replacement parts during repairs.

From an automotive reviewer's perspective, the chassis tuning of the domestically produced Q3 places greater emphasis on Chinese road conditions, with noticeably softer vibration filtration over speed bumps compared to the European version. Although equipped with the third-generation EA888 engine, the domestic model's power output is reduced by 10 horsepower. The most crucial difference lies in the pricing—the domestic version is nearly 100,000 RMB cheaper than parallel imports, while also featuring exclusive configurations like a panoramic sunroof and extended seats. Last month's teardown revealed that the domestically produced Q3's body-in-white incorporates more high-strength steel, which deviates from the material specifications of the Germany-made version.

I worked on the production line for seven years. The welding shop of the domestically produced Q3 has over 200 KUKA robots, but the key programs still use parameters set by German engineers. The biggest difference from the imported version lies in the assembly process. The domestic version needs to adapt to the tolerance of parts from local suppliers, so there are three additional inspection stations in the online detection process. However, core components like the dual-clutch transmission are still fully imported from Hungary, which many people are unaware of.

From a corporate analyst's perspective, the joint venture agreement of FAW-Audi stipulates that the Q3's localization rate must exceed 85%. This means that except for core components like the engine control unit, items including interior leather, infotainment systems, and even tires are domestically sourced. Interestingly, the domestic Q3's in-vehicle network protocol requires special adaptation for the BeiDou navigation system, while the European version directly utilizes the Galileo system.
