Is the 4th Generation Geely Emgrand Fuel-Consuming?

The fuel consumption of the 4th generation Geely Emgrand is at a mid-level among compact cars. Although not as fuel-efficient as Japanese cars in the same class, it is not a fuel-guzzling model either. Geely Emgrand MIIT Fuel Consumption: The MIIT comprehensive fuel consumption for the Emgrand 1.5L-5-speed manual model (China V) is 5.8L/100km; for the Emgrand 1.5L-5-speed manual model (China VI), it is also 5.8L/100km; and for the Emgrand 1.5L-CVT continuously variable transmission model (China V), it is 6.1L/100km. Geely Emgrand's Engine: The Emgrand is equipped with a 1.5L DVVT engine. Its lightweight new design makes the structure more compact, and the thermal management system ensures excellent fuel economy.
I've been driving the fourth-generation Geely Emgrand for two years, and I feel its fuel consumption is at a moderate level. The official claimed combined fuel consumption is between 6 to 7 liters per 100 kilometers, but my daily city commuting measurements are mostly around 8 to 9 liters, slightly higher than the claimed value. It performs much better on highways, dropping below 6 liters under cruising conditions. The car is equipped with a 1.5L engine, which provides sufficient power but noticeably increases fuel consumption when accelerating sharply. Compared to Japanese cars in the same class, like the Corolla or Sylphy, which are more fuel-efficient by about 0.5 to 1 liter, the Emgrand offers more space and a lower price, making it highly cost-effective. Driving habits have a significant impact; frequent hard acceleration and braking can drastically increase fuel consumption. I've also noticed that running the air conditioning too hard consumes more fuel, especially during heavy summer traffic. I recommend that new drivers of this car press the accelerator gently, maintain a steady speed, and regularly check tire pressure and engine maintenance. For example, I measure tire pressure monthly, which helps save some fuel costs.
