Is N Gear the Neutral Gear?

N gear is indeed the neutral gear, which exists in both automatic and manual transmissions. The N gear is positioned between the R (Reverse) and D (Drive) gears on the gear shift console. The function of the N gear is to disconnect the power transmission between the input and output shafts of the transmission. The N gear can be used when parking for a short duration. The methods for using the N gear are as follows: 1. Under safe conditions, any forward gear can be shifted to N gear at any time, but shifting from P (Park) or R (Reverse) to N gear requires pressing the brake pedal first; 2. Normally, the vehicle should be brought to a complete stop by pressing the brake before shifting from N gear to any other gear. However, in special circumstances, the N gear can be directly shifted to a forward gear, though this will cause a strong impact and may damage the transmission; 3. In most automatic transmission models, the ignition key must be turned to the second position to power on the vehicle before the gear shift lever can be moved from P gear to N gear.
