Is Magnetec Fully Synthetic?

Strictly speaking, Magnetec is semi-synthetic because Castrol's fully synthetic base oils are primarily derived from Group III hydrocracked and recombined oils. By strict definition, a fully synthetic oil should use only Group IV base oils (the standard for full synthetics was established by Mobil, who once sued Castrol over this issue). However, Magnetec fully meets the performance standards of synthetic oils and can be considered an entry-level full synthetic (which is why Mobil lost the lawsuit). Additional relevant information: Note: Castrol's product closest to the standard definition of full synthetic is Edge. For better resistance to degradation, you might try Mobil 1 or the established German brand Fuchs. For daily driving, domestically sold Mobil 1 should be changed around 15,000 km, and can last up to 20,000 km with good road and air conditions (under similar conditions, the European/American version of Mobil 1 can easily reach 25,000 km). Fuchs performs slightly better than the domestic version of Mobil 1.
