Is it safe to drive with platform shoes?

Wearing platform shoes while driving can easily lead to accidents with dangerous consequences, so female drivers should avoid driving in platform shoes. Choosing appropriate driving shoes: For men, comfort and slip resistance should be prioritized when selecting driving shoes. Casual shoes, sports shoes, or leather shoes are all acceptable options. The theoretical tests for Subject 1 and Subject 4 explicitly state that female drivers must not wear high heels while driving. This regulation is implemented for safety reasons. During driving practice (especially for Subject 2), the left foot typically remains on the clutch pedal for extended periods, which can cause fatigue after prolonged practice. Hazards of driving with platform shoes: Due to the thick soles, testers found it difficult to quickly move their right foot between the accelerator and brake pedals. Additionally, the thick soles impair pedal feedback, making it challenging to control the pressure applied when stepping on the pedals. While experienced drivers might manage to fully depress the brake by adjusting their leg position or seat distance and height, driving with high heels, sandals, or platform shoes constitutes behavior that compromises safety. It poses risks not only to others but also to the driver themselves. Therefore, for safety reasons, it is not recommended for novice drivers to operate a vehicle while wearing platform shoes.
Having driven for over twenty years, I believe driving in wedge heels poses significant risks. The slope of the shoes can make foot movements on the brake and accelerator sluggish, especially in emergencies like sudden braking, where delayed reactions can easily lead to accidents. I've witnessed many accidents caused by footwear issues, such as heels getting stuck under pedals leading to loss of control. For safety, I strongly recommend wearing flat shoes or sneakers while driving, as they better conform to the foot shape and improve control precision. Additionally, long-distance driving in wedge heels can easily cause foot fatigue, affecting concentration. Remember to develop the habit of keeping spare flat shoes in the car, so you won't be inconvenienced when going out for gatherings.
