Except for large passenger buses and school buses, which cannot be inspected in a different location, all other vehicles can undergo inspection in a different location. Currently, the traffic management authorities have fully implemented cross-province inspection for small cars, trucks, and medium-sized passenger vehicles. Applicants can directly conduct inspections in provinces other than the vehicle registration location and apply for the inspection qualification mark without needing to go through the entrusted inspection procedure. Large passenger buses and school buses cannot be inspected in a different location and must return to the vehicle registration location for inspection. Inspection time requirements: Small and micro non-operational passenger vehicles are exempt from inspection within 6 years. For vehicles over 6 years but less than 10 years, inspection is required every two years; for vehicles over 10 years but less than 15 years, annual inspection is required; for vehicles over 15 years, inspection is required every 6 months. Operational passenger vehicles require annual inspection within 5 years; for vehicles over 5 years, inspection is required every 6 months. Trucks and large and medium-sized non-operational passenger vehicles require annual inspection within 10 years; for vehicles over 10 years, inspection is required every 6 months. Imported vehicles, like other vehicle types, can undergo regular inspection at any inspection site. Inspection precautions: Vehicles that fail the inspection must be repaired within a specified time limit. If they still fail after the deadline, the vehicle management office will confiscate their license plates and prohibit further driving. Vehicles that do not participate in the inspection without reason or fail the inspection are not allowed to drive on the road and cannot be transferred. Vehicles that meet the scrapping conditions or have exceeded the prescribed service life will not be inspected, and their license plates will be revoked, their files canceled, and they will be scrapped.

Last year when I was working out of town, my car happened to be due for its annual inspection. I simply went to a local testing station at the time. The policy is indeed much more convenient now - nationwide inspection eliminates the need to return to my hometown to handle the entrustment procedures. Just remember to bring your vehicle license, compulsory traffic insurance policy, and ID card. However, there are two important things to note: first, all traffic violation records must be cleared, and second, the vehicle must not have any modification issues. When I was in line last time, the car in front got stuck because it had installed strobe lights, and ended up having to remove them and queue again. I recommend checking the testing station's queue status on the Traffic Management 12123 APP before going to avoid a wasted trip.

Since the nationwide vehicle inspection policy was implemented, getting your car inspected in a different location is no longer an issue. I have a friend who works out of town all year round, and he got his car inspected directly in Zhejiang. Now the inspection systems are all connected online. As long as your vehicle is within the valid inspection period, you just need to bring three things—the original vehicle license, a copy of the compulsory traffic insurance that’s still valid, and the owner’s ID card. But don’t forget to clear all traffic violations, otherwise the system won’t let it pass. If you’re driving a minivan or a commercial vehicle, be aware that these types of vehicles still need to return to the registration location for inspection as per the old rules.

We long-haul drivers know best the convenience of out-of-town vehicle inspections. Nowadays you can get your vehicle inspected anywhere you drive, as long as it's not a special-purpose vehicle. I remember last time when I was doing freight transport in Xi'an, I got my annual inspection done along the way. Key reminder: Make sure your insurance policy is valid. Some inspection stations no longer require paper copies, but bringing a physical copy is safer. It's best to check critical components like lights and brakes before departure to avoid on-site issues wasting time.
